Stonington State Police Investigate Fatal I-95 Crash

(CTN News) – An investigation is underway by the Connecticut State Police into the cause of a three-vehicle crash that killed a Franklin woman on Interstate 95 in Stonington on Thursday, police say.

According to police, the three-vehicle crash took place around 11:53 a.m., just north of Exit 91, and took place at a distance of half a mile.

The police said there was heavy traffic on Interstate 95 when a driver of a Mazda CX-5 rear-ended a Honda Civic and the left rear corner of a Toyota Tundra, which was stopped in heavy traffic.

According to police, the Honda was pushed off the right side of the road, where it came to an uncontrolled final stop in a ditch off the right side of the highway after being pushed off the right side.

On the left shoulder of the road, the Mazda rolled over on its side and came to an uncontrolled rest while the Toyota remained in the left lane, but the Mazda rolled over on its side.

A Honda Civic driver was transported to the hospital by ambulance where she was pronounced dead as a result of her injuries.

Barbara Dyer, 78, of Franklin, North Carolina, was identified as the victim of the accident.

It was reported by the police that the driver of the Mazda sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. A Toyota driver was not injured as a result of the accident.

As a result of the accident, all three vehicles were towed away.

Those who witnessed the accident or who have footage of the collision are asked to contact Connecticut State Police Christopher Trooper Brett at 860-848-6500 extension 5, if they have any information about what happened.
