South African Woman Dies in Klong Prem Central Prison in Bangkok
BANGKOK – The International Relations Department of the South African Embassy in Bangkok has confirmed on Sunday that a South African woman had died in a Thai prison hospital.
The woman, who was an alleged drug mule, passed away after a long illness last week. The department said that it had received news of her passing a few days ago.
The woman, who could not be named because her family had not been formally notified about her death, was believed to have spent the last two years in the Klong Prem Central prison in Bangkok.
She was admitted to the prison hospital after suffering severe fever and headaches over a long period.
It was that thought she may have contracted tuberculosis.
International Relations Department officials were apparently struggling to track down her relatives.
