Rescue workers try to retrieve the bodies of four Myanmar workers killed in a van crash in Kamphaeng Phet

 

KAMPHAENG PHET – Four Myanmar Nationals have been killed and seven others injured when a chartered van transporting them north from Bangkok veered off a road and smashed into a tree in Kamphaeng Phet Province.

Pol Lt Arthit Boonpuangsathaporn, a duty officer at Muang police station reporte the accident took place on Phahol Yothin Road along Kamphaeng Phet-Tak route at Klong Sinual village in Kamphaeng Phet’s Muang district around 3am.

Police and rescue workers retrieved the bodies of two men and two women, seven other passengers were injured and rushed to a nearby hospital.

Supachai Khongkhetvanit, 34, driver, told police he was driving the Myanmar migrant workers from Bangkok to Mae Sot border district in Tak for Songkran celebrations in their home provinces.

Police suspected the driver fell asleep. He was detained for legal action

A source said several passengers vans were often hired to transport Myanmar workers to the border district of Mae Sot during the lead-up to the Songkran festival.  It was the second road accident involving Myanmar migrants that happened in Kamphaeng Phet.
