Songkran’s “Seven Dangerous Days” 5th Day Toll 255 Motorists Have Been Killed and 2,439 Injured

The number of road casualties for the first five days of Songkran has reaches 2, 290.

CHIANG RAI – The Province of Chiang Mai has overtaken Nakorn Si Thammarat at seeing the highest number of accidents at 86.

Prachuap Khiri Khan and Kanchaburi saw a record death toll of 11 each. The most accident-free provinces meanwhile include Chonburi, Trat, Nonthaburi and Phuket.

The Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department has disclosed that the number of road casualties for the first five days of Songkran has reaches 2, 290.

Their were 37 people were killed and 419 injured in 393 accidents on Monday, the 5th of the “Seven Dangerous Days” of Songkran (April 11-17), the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department reported Tuesday.

Police have reported road accidents were down 11.27% from 2,581 cases on the same five-day period last year, when there were 253 deaths and 2,751 injuries.

Prachuap Khiri Khan and Kanchanaburi had the highest death tolls, with 11 each.

Drunk driving and speeding were still the prime causes of accidents. Motorcycles and pickup trucks being involved in the largest number of accidents.
