(CTN News) – Singapore has retained its position as the world’s fifth least corrupt country, as reported by the Transparency International Corruption Perceptions Index.

Since the index’s inaugural publication in 1995, Singapore remains the sole Asian nation consistently within the top 10. While holding the third spot in 2018 and 2020, fourth in 2019 and 2021, Singapore slipped to fifth in both 2022 and 2023.

The index assesses and ranks countries based on their perceived levels of corruption within the public sector, assigning scores on a scale from 0 (indicating very corrupt) to 100 (reflecting very clean).

Singapore Maintains Strong Anti-Corruption Stance in 2023:

In 2023, Singapore maintained its score of 83, the same as the previous year.

CPIB emphasized that the corruption situation in Singapore is “firmly under control,” citing consistently low numbers of public sector corruption cases.

The bureau highlighted strong public confidence in national corruption control efforts, as evidenced by regular Public Perception Surveys conducted by CPIB.

In addition to the Transparency International Corruption Perceptions Index, CPIB provided additional corruption-related rankings.

Singapore secured the third position for the absence of corruption in the World Justice Project Rule of Law Index 2023, making it the top Asian nation among 142 countries.

The country also excelled in the 2023 Report on Corruption in Asia by the Political and Economic Risk Consultancy (PERC), where it was ranked as the top economy among 16.

CPIB acknowledged that Singapore’s reputation as one of the least corrupt countries globally is hard-earned and affirmed its commitment to collaborating with the community to combat corruption.

The bureau expressed a serious stance on reports disclosing corruption offenses, emphasizing the collective effort to ensure that incorruptibility remains a fundamental aspect of the Singaporean identity.
