BANGKOK – Sarud Seehaverachart, 31, was returned from Thailand to face a murder charge over the 2009 death of Luke Mitchell who was killed when he tried to break-up a scuffle outside a Melbourne nightclub.

Seehaverachart surrendered himself to Australian authorities in Bangkok on Thursday in response to Australia’s extradition request.

The man, a 31-year-old Thai citizen, surrendered to Australian authorities in Bangkok on Thursday and has since been extradited. He is expected to face the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Friday afternoon.

Earlier, Fairfax Media reported that the first man, Thatiya Terdputham, 38, a dual Thai-Australian citizen, was charged with the murder of Mr Mitchell after abandoning his fight against extradition to Australia in July 2103.

He was remanded to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Monday.

Another Thai national, Sarud Seehaverachart, was arrested in Thailand in September 2013.

Mr Mitchell, 29, was attacked five times by a group of men outside a 7-Eleven store at the corner of Brunswick Road and Royal Parade in Brunswick about 2am in May, 2009, as his sister-in-law and her friends watched.

The good Samaritan was stabbed a short distance from where he stepped in to break up a fight outside a nightclub.

Police believe three Thai men were connected to the attack.
