Royal Kathin Robes Offered at Wat Chet Yod in Chiang Rai Province

The Kathin ceremony at Wat Chet Yod this year could raise 603,087 baht from faithful Buddhists.

 

CHIANG RAI – His Majesty the King has graciously commanded his representatives to offer the annual royal Kathin robes to over 300 temples in Thailand and abroad.

As the Kathin period this year takes place during 20 October to 17 November, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej instructed the public sector, state enterprises, and faithful Buddhists to present Kathin robes to 294 temples in Thailand and 31 Thai temples in other countries.

At Wat Chet Yod in Chiang Rai Province, Dr Siwawit Samretpol from the Parliament Office paid respect to the image of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej. Representing His Majesty, Dr Siwawit presented the Kathin robes along with other necessities to the monks at the temple. The ceremony was joined by many civil servants and Buddhists.

At the end of the 3-month Buddhist Lent, monks across the country are allowed to travel and able to receive new robes. This tradition is called Kathin ceremony. Besides new robes, Buddhist literature, cooking utensils, monetary donation, and building materials are also presented to the monks on this occasion.
