Ron DeSantis Endorses Donald Trump And Withdraws From The Presidential Race

(CTN News) – Ron DeSantis, the Republican presidential candidate and governor of Florida, announced Sunday that he will end his campaign after starting his campaign in May last year, since he has been unable to shake Donald Trump’s popularity.

As part of his video message, Ron DeSantis, who has been a staunch critic of Donald Trump, also endorsed him for the presidency.

In May last year, the 45-year-old was considered one of the most powerful voices opposing the former president’s reelection campaign. At the beginning of last year, his online appearance was marred by technical difficulties on Twitter – the platform now known as X.

The announcement came less than two days before the New Hampshire primary, where polls showed Ron DeSantis far behind former President Donald Trump and former UN ambassador Nikki Haley.

After finishing second in Iowa, we have prayed and deliberated on the way forward,” the Florida governor said, adding that “if anything can be done to produce a favorable outcome, more campaign stops, more interviews, I will do so.”

The time and resources of my supporters cannot be asked for. It is unclear which path will lead to victory. Consequently, I am suspending my campaign,” he said in a video message.

“”Most Republican primary voters want Donald Trump to have a second chance,” he said. “I endorsed him because we cannot return to the old Republican guard of yesteryear, which is a repackaged form of warmed-up corporatism Nikki Haley Ron DeSantis represents“.”

The 77-year-old former president secured a landslide victory in Iowa last Tuesday, with 51% of Republicans choosing him over Ron DeSantis, who earned 21%, and Haley, who garnered 19%.

After winning the first two states, no candidate has ever lost the race, and a victory in New Hampshire would almost certainly end the Republican nomination race.

Haley had mostly refrained from attacking Trump’s many controversies. However, she began questioning his mental acuity, comparing him with the 81-year-old incumbent Democrat Joe Biden.
