CHIANG RAI – Thailand’s Prime Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-ocha presided over the opening of a “zero waste†learning centre in Ban Pong Srinakorn, Pa Daed district of Chiang Rai province during his one-day inspection trip on Monday.
Gen. Prayut said that the “Zero waste” learning centre is the prototype model of learning on how a rural village can manage its own garbage problem by means of recycling to turn the garbage into organic fertilizer or manure for cultivation purpose.
The project is just a small part of the government’s 20-year strategy to narrow the gap between the rich and the poor in the Thai society and to enable the grassroot people to be able to stand on their own feet and to help them reduce production cost in accordance with the late King’s philosophy of sufficiency economy.
The prototype model in Pa Daed district, if further developed to be put to use for energy generation in addition to organic fertilizer production, can be applied to the other communities, said the prime minister.
Foremost of all, he noted that the project could help solve the problem of garbage disposal which is increasingly becoming a headache for many communities and cities.
The prime minister later visited Mae Fah Luang University to preside over the joint private and government sectors conference on economic development in the northern region.
