PETCHABUN – A primary school teacher in Northern Thailand has come under fire for allegedly taping a “Not yet paid tuition fee 700 baht” notice across the the front of a pupil’s shirt.

A photo of the pupil with the sign on his chest was posted on social media and quickly drew criticism, with people questioning its appropriateness and calling for the protection of the boy’s face.

The young boy had ran home to his mother still wearing the message and told her he was punished and no one had talked to him at school.

Seksan Niyompeng, mayor of Phetchabun municipality, wrote on his Facebook page on Friday that he had ordered an inquiry into the matter and offered an apology to the young boy and his parents.

School management said the incident happened on Wednesday when it organised a meeting with parents and the 700-baht fee was for employment of personnel and student insurance.

The note was handwritten on transparent tape attached to the young boys shirt.

The report also said the parents of about 200 students at the school had not paid the fee.
