Thailand's E-ticket System Earns Million Baht Daily from Phi-Phi Island Tourists

(CTN News) – Since the Phi-Phi islands’ e-ticketing system went live in July of last year, they have brought in roughly 1 million baht per day for Thailand’s Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation.

The chief of Hat Noppharat Thara-Mu Ko Phi-Phi National Park, Rakchanok Paenoi, claims that entrance fee revenue has jumped by 20-30% to an average of 1 million baht per day, for a total of 137 million baht, since the adoption of the system.

Thailand Aims to Expand E-ticketing System to All National Parks

About 4,000 tourists visit the islands daily, which increases by two to three in April compared to the same month in the previous year. Thai PBS noted that most foreign visitors come from Europe and Russia.

Chief Rakchanok Paenoi did say that there have been problems with checking the e-tickets of some guests due to weak telephone signals and that this needs to be fixed as soon as possible.

Because of the poor reception, tourists visiting neighboring islands like Ko Phai and Phi-Phi Don cannot use the e-ticketing system.

Atthaphon Charoenchansa, chief of the department in charge of promoting the use of e-tickets for admission fees to national parks, has stated that this goal should be accomplished within the next two years.

Several islands’ environments and ecological systems improved thanks to the two-year closure of Hat Noppharat Thara Mu Ko Phi-Phi National Park following the Covid-19 pandemic. Many black-tipped coral sharks, for instance, have recently been spotted in Maya Bay.

The entrance fees to Thailand’s five national parks were increased by 100 percent for international visitors in September of last year. The following are the entrance fees:
