Pha Muang Taskforce Seizes 300 Kilos of Crystal Methamphetamine from Drug Runners

CHIANG RAI – Thai authorities have arrested a man along with 300 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine or “ice” in northernmost Chiang Rai province.

While attempting to smuggle the drugs from Myanmar into Thailand on Thursday, two men on a pick-up truck refused to stop at a security checkpoint on a border highway in Mae Sai district on Thursday.

In a hot pursuit that followed, the driver lost control of the vehicle and overturned it.

Officers from the Pha Muang Taskforce found only the passenger unconscious and ice drug in 12 sacks inside the truck, Sam, also Shan, was arrested.

The smuggling attempt is believed to be operated by a major drug syndicate.

The authorities later learned that the fleeing driver was identified as Nattapol Thongkham, 34
