CHIANG RAI   – The National Disaster Warning Center (NDWC) reported that the latest earthquake of 3.8 magnitude on the Richter scale that occurred at 01.53 a.m. today with the epicenter in Laos did not affect any area of Northern Thailand.

The earthquake’s epicenter was located southeast of Ban Nam Chang, Khun Nan Subdistrict, Chaloem Phra Kiat District, Nan province.

Captain Somsak Khaosuwan of the National Disaster Warning Center (NDWC) confirmed the vibration was felt only in Laos and the earthquake had no impact on the fault line straddling Mae Lao, Mae Suai and Phan districts in the Thai northern province of Chiang Rai which adjoins the Lao Border. The fault line was hit by an earthquake on 5 May 2014.

The NDWC director also urged people in the northern region to take care of their health during this winter by preparing warm clothes and blankets because the temperatures should drop continuously and the cold would last until February 2015.

As for the southern region, the director warned those living on hillfoots or by river banks along the southern coasts to closely monitor weather forecasts from the Meteorological Department as the region is now in the monsoon season.
