Narcotics Suppression Police Nab Drug Runners in Mae Fa Luang District

Narcotics Control Board announced the arrest of Chiang Rai men Apu Amor (32), Teeradet A-ngi (27) and Anuchit Merlae (18) with 1 million amphetamine pills.

CHIANG RAI – Narcotics suppression police in Chiang Rai have arrested three men in possession of one million methamphetamine pills in Mae Fa Luang district.

 Pol Maj Gen Wachai Suwansirikhet the Chiang Rai police chief , and Pol Gen Priewpan Damapong, the prime minister’s adviser, announced the arrests at a press conference.

Narcotics suppression police followed two pick-up trucks suspected of couriering drugs from Doi Mae Salong and stopped them for a search.

The two pickup trucks were found to contain fertilizer sacks in which were hidden one million methamphetamine pills.

Police arrested Aphu Amo, 32, a Muser tribesman, and Thiradet A-ngi, 27, and an 18-year-old boy, both of Hmong origin.

The men allegedly confessed to having been paid 300,000 baht to deliver the drugs to an agent in the South.

Earlier this month Northern police uncovered three major hauls of methamphetamine tablets in Chiang Rai totaling 6.39 million tablets in three separate busts while four other smaller busts added to the total making it over 6.6 million methamphetamine tablets seized in ten days.

4.2 million methamphetamine’s were uncovered in Chiang Rai stashed in a pickup truck.

 

The first big arrest took place on August 8, 2013 when Chiang Rai man Chuchart Phunchotipirom, age 28, was arrested with 4.2 million methamphetamine tablets in a pickup truck on the road between Chiang Rai and Phayao. He confessed to police that he had been hired to carry the 15 sacks of pills from Ban Pha Tan in Wiang Kaen, Chiang Rai to Phayao to hold it until it was to be transported on to Bangkok. Police estimate the street value of the drugs to be 1.1 billion baht.

Police believe that the Hmong man belongs to a drug trafficking network run by Lt. Col. Yee Sae in Burma.
The second largest arrest occurred in Nakhom Pathom when Narcotic Suppression Police received a tip off that a truck belonging to the Northern carrier Nim See Seng Express was carrying drugs from Chiang Rai.

Police arrested the receiver on August 17, 2013, Parames Saesong, age 31, when he picked up 7 packages carrying a total 1.21 million Yaba tablets and stored them in his car.

The third largest haul took place on August 18 in Mai Sai, Chiang Rai when Mae Sai police and members of the Pha Muang Task Force arrested four other Hmong men, Somchai Saehang, age 45 and Mai Saehang, age 44, Thua Laohang, age 36 and Prapan Saeyang, age 29 in Ban Thum Pla with 990,000 million methamphetamine tablets stashed in a modified pickup truck. The men confessed to police after being caught at the police checkpoint that they had been paid 1 million baht to transport the drugs, valued at over 250 million baht, to Bangkok by the drug network run by Yee Sae.

The fourth largest arrest by police acting on a tip off was of three men with 200,000 methamphetamine tablets with them in a hotel room in Nang Lae, Chiang Rai. Wichit Suesat age 24 of Udon Thani, Arkor Mayur age 20 of Chiang Rai and Tian Siriauam age 48 of Uttaradit were arrested on August 13 and confessed to police that they had been paid 50,000 baht to traffic the drugs from the border in Chiang Rai to Bangkok.
