More than 3000 Drivers Arrested in 3 Days for Drunk Driving in Thailand

BANGKOK – National Council for Peace and Order deputy spokeswoman Col Sirichan Ngathong said on Tuesday that a total of 3,085 people were arrested for drink-driving and 75 of their vehicles impounded at road safety checkpoints during the past three days, April 9-11,
Of the 3,085 arrested, 1,994 had been charged with reckless driving and 255 had their driver’s licences seized.
Officials had impounded 63 motorcycles and 12 cars and public transport vehicles. Â The owners of these vehicles could reclaim them after the Songkran Festival.
On Monday, 1,345 people were arrested for drink-driving, involving 875 motorcycles and 470 cars and public transporters. Forty-seven vehicles — 38 motorcycles and nine cars — were impounded.
The arrests and seizures were part of the government ‘s campaign against drink-driving ahead of the Songkran Festival.
