Junta Continues Purging Publicly Elected Puea Thai Party
Earlier an announcement was read over TV broadcast freezing all assets of former interior minister Charupong Ruangsuwan and education minister Chaturon Chaisang, the two Pheu Thai party executives who refused to report to them.
In orders announced around 9pm on Saturday, all financial institutions to stop transactions with the two and report their past transactions from March 1 to May 24.
Later, another announcement was tead ordering the transfer of the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Centre secretary-general Pol Col Tawee Sodsong to an inactive post at the Prime Minister’s Office.
He is replaced by Panu Uthairat, an inspector at the Interior Ministry.
Two separate orders were also issued mandating Pravit Rojanaphruk, a senior journalist at The Nation newspaper, and Paiwong Techanarong, owner of the Bonanza resort, to report to the NCPO on Sunday.
In latest development, Thaksin Shinawatra’s only son, Panthongtae, was also taken into custody at Chiang Mai international airport, reportedly for supporting the anti-coup protests in Chiang Mai.
He was flown to be detained in Bangkok.
Metropolitan Police Bureau chief Kamronwit Thoopkrachang, an officer with close ties to Thaksin, also announced late Saturday that he would resign.
He was earlier transferred to be head of northern police but was rejected by the Election Commission.
