Houston Astros And Jose Altuve Extend Their Contract For $125 Million

(CTN News) – As general manager Dana Brown announced on Tuesday, Jose Altuve, the Houston Astros’ star second baseman, will be an Astro for his entire playing career.

In an announcement made Tuesday evening, the Houston Astros announced that they had reached an agreement with Jose Altuve on a five-year contract extension.

There will be a contract covering the seasons 2025 through 2029 as part of the agreement. It is anticipated that Jose Altuve will be 39 years old by the time the term of his contract extension ends.

According to the Houston Astros, Jose Altuve is entering his final season of a seven-year contract extension signed on March 19, 2018, just days before the start of the 2024 season.

The team said in a press release on Tuesday that during Jose Altuve’s first 12 years in the league, he established himself as a future Hall of Fame candidate as well as one of the top three players in the franchise’s history, along with Hall of Famers Jeff Bagwell and Craig Biggio.

The MLB reported that the contract deal is worth $125 million, which includes $30 million per season from 2025 to 2027.

It is expected that Altuve, general manager Dana Brown, manager Joe Espada and his agent Scott Boras will discuss the details of the contract extension at a press conference set for 10 a.m. on March 16 at Minute Maid Park, in Houston.

Jose Altuve played 90 games last year, hitting .311 with 15 home runs, 51 RBIs, and 14 stolen bases.

As reported by AP, he hadn’t made his season debut until May of last year after sustaining a broken left thumb while playing for Venezuela during the World Baseball Classic when he was struck by a pitch from Daniel Bard and sustained a broken thumb.

In addition to his many postseason appearances, Jose Altuve has also contributed greatly to the Houston Astros’ most successful period, which includes eight postseason appearances, seven consecutive ALCS appearances, four American League Pennants, and two World Series championships, according to the Houston Astros.
