KUNMING – The Deputy Permanent-Secretary of Interior Ministry, Maitri Inthusut, has revealed that governors from provinces along the Greater Mekong Sub-region Economic Corridor will be attending the ECF 7 and the GMS Governor’s Forum in Kunming, China on 10-11 June 2015 under the Greater Mekong Sub-region economic cooperation framework.

The Deputy Permanent-Secretary of Interior Ministry, the governor of Chiang Rai, Pongsak Wangsamer, and the vice governor of Tak, Montri Chanachaiwibunwat, will be giving speeches representing Thailand in this forum.

Other Greater Mekong Subregion Economic Corridor attendees from Thailand will include the governors of Phayao, Tak, Phitsanulok, Sa Kaeo, Trat, Kanchanaburi, Nong Khai, Khon Kaen, Nakhon Phanom, and Mukdahan, along with the related officials.The forum agenda on the first day (10 June 2015) will include the establishment of economic cooperation, industrial promotion in the GMS, customs procedures facilitation, trade and investment promotion, as well as the promotion of connectivity and economic integration.

The forum on the second day (11 June 2015) will include a ministerial meeting on the development of the economic corridor, which involves the revision of the strategic plan, the driving of the GMS concept in the future, the facilitation of electronic border-crossing, transportation and trade facilitation in the GMS, the development of the Special Economic Zones, and the signing of a joint declaration of the Ministers from the 6 GMS countries.

The Deputy Permanent-Secretary has added that the Ministry of Interior must ensure the implementation of plans under the GMS framework to take place in local areas, especially the areas along the economic corridors and the establishment of the Special Economic Zones, for the concrete development that will push forward and tighten the relations between the GMS states.

The Greater Mekong Sub-region is an economic cooperation between Thailand, Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia, Vietnam, and the Yunnan Province of China. The GMS has been supported by the Asian Development Bank, and has the working mechanism that involves meetings in many levels.
