Eighteen Students Injured is Head of Crash in Northeastern Thailand

UBON RATCHATHANI – A pickup truck converted to carry students collided head-on with another pickup truck , injuring 18 students, eight seriously and the drivers of both vehicles.
The incident happened in the northeastern Province of Ubon Ratchathani at about 4.30pm on the road from Muang Sam Sip to Phana.
Police said the driver of the pickup Mr. Somsak Kaenmun carrying the students was taking 18 students home when, another pickup truck driven by Suraphan Saiphat veered off the lane and crashed into the traffic island, causing it to fly over the island and crashed head-on with the student truck.
The collision left all 18 students and the two drivers injured, 8 seriously, they were later admitted to Muang Sam Sip district hospital.
Police said rescue workers spent almost an hour before they could pull trapped Mr. Suraphan out of the badly damaged truck.
Police reported that Mr. Suraphan’s vehicle arrived at a curve on the road, veered off the lane and jumped across the traffic island and hitting the truck transporting the students coming on the opposite direction.
Exact cause was being examined by police but both were booked for further questioning.
