Drug Runners Arrested with 10Kg of Methamphetamine in Mae Sai
and nine million baht in cash
MAE SAI – A Myanmar National and a Thai woman were arrested Tuesday in possession of 10kg of crystal methamphetamine
and nine million baht in cash in Chiang Rai’s Mae Sai district.
Police identified the man only as Kua, 39, and the woman as Horm Oonsang, 29, a native of Mae Sai. Officers from the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) and Provincial Police Region 5’s investigating unit apprehended them while transporting the drug from Mae Sai to a customer in adjacent province of Chiang Mai.
The duo are members of the Myammar based drug gang led by Lt Col Yi Se, who is wanted under a warrant in Thailand with a bounty of five million baht for information leading to his arrest, Pol Col Paisit Wongmuang, deputy DSI chief, said.
Their job in the gang was to receive drugs smuggled across the border from Myanmar, contact customers and deliver the “ice” drug to them. They were paid 500,000 baht for each delivery.
Prior to the arrest, Pol Col Paisit said, the DSI received a tip-off from the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) that a foreign drug gang was to make a large delivery from Myanmar to a customer in Chiang Mai, with some investors linked with the gang being in Chiang Rai.
