CHAI NAT – Chinese tourists on their way to Chiang Rai from Bangkok have crashed into a cow that fell from a truck in Sapphaya district of Chai Nat Province on Sunday morning, killing the animal and slightly injuring the occupants.
Police and rescue workers rushed to the scene and found an overturned Toyota Yaris on the road. Three people — two Chinese and one Thai — were safely rescued from the vehicle.
A dead cow, weighing about 150 kg, was found about 50 meters away from the car. Nobody showed up to claim ownership of the cow.
Chatri Sae Jueng, the Thai passenger, told police that he and the two Chinese friends left Bangkok early on Sunday morning to visit his relatives in Chiang Rai. Their car, driven by one of his Chinese friends, was travelling behind a truck loaded with cows.
Suddenly, a cow fell from the back of the truck in front of them. The Chinese driver was unable to swerve in time and the car slammed into the cow before overturning, said Mr Chatri, who was slightly hurt.
The truck driver sped away, leaving his dead animal at the scene. Police are now hunting for the driver of the cattle truck.
