CHIANG RAI – Tourists are still visiting the northern province of Chiang Rai amidst the tightening security measures following the blast that took place Erawan Shrine at Rajprasong intersection on Monday.

At Wat Rong Khun in Muang District of Chiang Rai, Thais and foreigners are seen pouring in to get a glimpse of the monastery’s beautiful Buddhist arts amid high level security measures deployed by provincial officers to ensure safety of the tourists. The move is also hoped to regain confidence among visiting foreign nationals.

In the meantime, police officers have been ordered to patrol all risk-prone locations, especially at nighttime when checkpoints are set up throughout the province.

Security has been beefed up since the unfortunate incident at Ratchaprasong Intersection in Bangkok where 20 people were killed and scores were injured.

Chiang Rai Provincial Administrative Office (PAO)has increased security measures in the province, especially in Kat Jiang Hai Market, Suan Tung public park, and zones around the Municipality.

A group of officials were yesterday dispatched to the aforementioned areas, as part of the office’s efforts to ensure safety for the public and visitors. The squad was comprised of the province’s peacekeeping forces, military and municipality officials.

Aside from patrolling, the PAO also established a command center for public safety which also acts as a coordinator among related agencies.

Patrolling officials also handed out leaflets about basic security protocol to residents and tourists in the areas, while urging all to be on the lookout for any irregularity, especially foreign objects. Should anyone find anything out of ordinary, he or she is strongly recommended to inform officials immediately.

Locals and tourists are confident in their safety with the presence of the reinforced security, while showing their willingness to cooperate with the authorities.
