CHIANG RAI – Officials in Chiang Rai are readying themselves for the launch of the newest Thai-Lao friendship bridge on December 11.

Chiang Rai governor Phongsak Wangsamoe on Thursday disclosed that the construction of the 4th Thai-Lao friendship bridge was almost complete, and preparations were underway for the inauguration ceremony on December 11. The newest land link to Laos would act as a passageway into and from China. After the launch, more tourists are expected to visit Thailand, and there will be an increase in the amount of trade in goods. Currently, work is underway to finalize work for the immigration and customs points at the bridge, added Mr. Phongsak.

Regarding the benefits for locals in the province, residents will make more income from selling locally-made products. He added that Mae Sai, Chiang Saen and Chiang Khong districts in the province are slated to host economic zones and merchandise distribution centers in the future. (NNT)
