Chiang Rai Residents Warned of Summer Storms

CHIANG RAI – The Meteorological Department reported that Chiang Rai and other Northern Provinces will likely experience lightening, thunderstorms, strong wind and occasional hail over the next few days.
Due to the occurrence of thunder storms in the upper regions of the country, the public has been advised to keep their distance from large trees, billboards and buildings that appear structurally unsound during times of strong wind.
Meanwhile, three people, including a six-year-old girl, were killed by a lightning strike as seasonal thunderstorms lashed five provinces in the North and the Northeast on Wednesday, damaging numerous houses and toppling more than 20 power poles.The deaths came in tambon Na Nuan in Roi Et province, Pol Capt Atiwit Singharathor, a duty officer at Phanom Phrai district poice, said on Thursday.
Wichian Thappila, 36, his daughter Thananya, 6, and relative Thawee Hatsano, 54, were seeking refuse in their paddy field Wednesday evening when lightning struck their shelter, killing them instantly.
The Meteorological Department on Thursday warned people in the North, Northeast, East and the Central Plains to brace themselves for thundershowers and gusty winds between May 8-11 as a southeast wind brings humanity from the South China Sea and the Gulf of Thailand to the upper part of the country.
