Cambodian Authorities to Enforce New Dress Code for Angkor Wat

SIEM REAP – Starting August 4, visitors to Cambodia’s Angkor Wat must honour the new dress code or risk being denied the entry, according to local reports.
The Khmer Times reported today that in a bid to encourage visitors to respect the sanctity of the temples and Cambodian culture, the Apsara Authority will next month require tourists to wear pants or skirts below the knees and a T-shirt that covers the shoulders.
Besides a code of conduct on wearing appropriate clothing, it will also include rules and regulations damage to monuments, littering, traffic congestion and more.

“We will not allow them to buy a temple pass if they wear revealing clothes,” said spokesman Long Kosal. “However, our officials will inform them what they should wear to be able to visit our ancient temples, so they can come back to buy a ticket later after they change their clothes.
When visitors dress appropriately during their visit to the park, it means they are showing respect to Cambodian sacred temples, culture and Cambodian women’s values.
More than 2 million tourists visited Angkor Wat per annum during the past two years.
