Bus Crash in Chon Buri Injures 23 Tourists – Yes Again
CHON BURI– Yet again at least 23 Russian tourists have been injured when the bus in which they were traveling crashed and rolled onto its side near Pattaya, Thailand, police said.
Bus driver Preecha Ramwong, 40, said he swerved to avoid hitting another vehicle Thursday and went into a roll in a rice field.
The bus was carrying 51 passengers at the time of the accident, though it wasn’t clear if all of them were Russian nationals, Thai Police reported. The tourists were en route to an elephant-trekking tour.
Twelve injured tourists were taken to Samitivej Hospital in Sri Racha, including Gary Pomeransve, 75, the only person hurt in the incident to be named so far.
Another 10 were admitted to Phyathai Hospital in Sri Racha and eight to Pattaya Memorial Hospital.
Driver of the bus Preecha Ramwong said he lost control of the vehicle after a car suddenly overtook him.
The bus skidded off the road and hit an electricity pole, “I was traveling at a low speed,” he said.
