Bus Bound for Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport Erupts into Flames

BANGKOK – Pol Capt Ritthikrai Yomprakhon, deputy chief investigator of Lat Krabang police station, reported that fire destroyed a tour bus bound for Suvarnabhumi airport with about 20 passengers on the Lat Krabang elevated road on Monday morning shortly before 8am.

Pol Capt Ritthikrai Yomprakhon said the bus driver was taking about 20 passengers from Samut Prakan to Suvarnabhumi airport when the engine compartment suddenly burst into flames.

Three fire engines from Rachathewa tambon administration organisation were sent to the scene, the fire was brought under control in 20 minutes. The bus was completely destroyed however no passengers were injured.

The bus driver Ratana Jenraksa said he tried unsuccessfully to put out the fire with a chemical extinguisher but the flames were to strong.

Fire fighting officials said the cause of the fire was being investigated.

 

Three fire engines from Rachathewa tambon administration organisation were sent  to the scene. When they arrived the bus was engulfed in flames.

Police closed off three lanes to traffic, leaving only one lane open and causing a traffic jam.

The fire was brought under control in 20 minutes. The bus was deemed a write-off.

Ratana Jenraksa, the bus driver, said he was taking about 20 passengers from Samut Prakan to Suvarnabhumi airport. The engine compartment suddenly burst into flames.

He stopped the bus on the roadside and the passengers quickly alighted. Hen called for another bus to take the passengers to safety.

Mr Ratana said he tried unsuccessfully to put out the fire with a chemical extinguisher.

The closed lanes were quickly reopened to vehicles after the fire was extinguished and traffic flow soon returned to normal, police said.

The cause of the fire was being investigated.
