Bangkok Airways adds More flights to Cycle-Friendly Chiang Rai
CHIANG RAI – Bangkok Airways is opening a twice-daily non-stop service between Bangkok and Chiang Rai to help promote this beautiful northern province as a city for cyclists, passengers on this route are allowed to carry one bicycle, free of charge, by informing the airline 24 hours before the flight.
The President of Bangkok Airways Puttipong Prasarttong-Osoth said “We use the 162-seater Airbus A320 aircraft to service this route,” “Apart from helping to promote cycling, we also see the high demand from international passengers connecting to Southeast Asia, and Chiang Rai is another potential destination to enhance tourism and commerce within the region. The city is a strategic gateway to neighbouring countries such as Myanmar and Laos, which is a pathway for the upcoming Asean Economic Community, as well as most southern parts of China.”
According to the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Chiang Rai is a laid-back city with a perfect cycling environment. It is an ideal destination to promote the slow tourism concept — where travellers visit a destination to experience the environment, explore culture and spend time enjoying their favourite sport while on holiday.Interesting attractions in Chiang Rai include Doi Tung, Mae Fah Luang Art and Culture Park, Wat Phra Kaeo, Wat Rong Khun, Black House and Pottery Village.
The first Bangkok Airways outbound flight PG231 departs from Suvarnabhumi Airport at 7.35am and arrives in Chiang Rai at 8.55am, while the second outbound flight departs at 6.05pm and arrives 7.25pm. For the first inbound flight, PG232 will depart from Chiang Rai Airport at 9.45am and arrives at Suvarnabhumi at 11.05am, while the second inbound flight will depart at 8.10pm and arrive at 9.30pm.
