CHIANG RAI – The Cheng Doi Municipality Office in Doi Saket district in Chiang Rai Province officially launched its first graduating class of senior citizens from its Charabarn Wutthi College, with an aim to improve the lives of the older generations.

For the school’s first graduation on Monday, 256 senior citizens will graduate, with the oldest graduate achieving age 92.

Charabarn Wutthi College is the first school for the aging in Thailand, and only admits students at age 50 and above into its one-year programme which began July 28 last year.

The school’s vision is “Relaying Knowledge, Learn More Technology, Age with Value and Becomes Old with Quality.”

The college holds classes every Wednesday, with the school providing normal activities like other schools. Students attending sing the national anthem and pray before beginning their classes.

Apart from the teachers that were supplied by the Chiang Mai Provincial Social Development and Human Security Office, various lecturers were also hired to teach the elderly students.

Students admitted to the school don’t pay tuition or fees, and are also provided regular health checkups by different hospitals.
