Police questioned his adopted daughter, who said she had last seeing the Russo at around 8.30pm, when he had asked her to help him look after the hotel’s service counter in his place so that he could go up to his room and rest.
The following morning Ms Phattara Khamthieng, the wife of the deceased, discovered his body after returning from business in Chumphon. She told police that she had knocked on the door and when he didn’t answer she used the spare key to enter the room, finding Russo unresponsive on the bed.
Ms Phattara told police that Russo did not drink alcohol, but smoked, drank a lot of soft drinks, had a sleeping disorder and had undergone cervical surgery a few months ago.
Dr Suchada Vichutanon of Patong Hospital said an autopsy will be preformed to determine the cause of death and that the investigation into how he died has yet to be concluded.
