PHUKET – Lt Tanagon Tammakan of the Phi Phi Island Police has reported to Thai Medai that a 24 year-old New Zealand woman has died after leaving her tour group on Phi Phi Island, near Phuket.
Thai police have confirmed a body found floating off the Phi Phi Islands was that of a New Zealand tourist, the body of 24-year-old Renée Joy Hodgkinson was found floating near Phi Phi in Lo Dalum Bay, on Wednesday.
According to the Phuket News, Doctors concluded the examination revealed no signs of violence on the body and the doctor ruled the cause of death as drowning. She was predicted to have been dead for about six hours prior to being found,”the police are still investigating the circumstances of her death.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade said the department was aware of the death of a New Zealand woman in Thailand and providing consular assistance to family.
Hodgkinson was a regular force member of the New Zealand Army and worked as a medic in the Medical Corps.
