CHIANG MAI – Thai authorities have detained a 19-year-old Filipino man suspected of fatally stabbing his elderly Thai neighbor in the city of Chiang Mai, English-language paper Bangkok Post reported on Saturday, February 27.
The report said the young Filipino allegedly admitted to killing his 73-year-old neighbor Jinda Pongsantia with a kitchen knife before ransacking her bedroom and stealing some 10,000 baht ($308.97) in coins.
The suspect reportedly claimed he had imitated an online combat game when he killed the victim.
According to the report, police arrested the suspect after searching his home early Saturday to look for evidence tying him to the killing.
Police officers found stolen coins and bloodstained clothing at the suspect’s residence, which was about 200 meters away from the victim’s house in Muang district.
The victim was first found dead on February 23. She had knife wounds to the neck and under her chin, and a blood-soaked knife was found near her body.
The suspect is now under police custody pending further legal action.
