Visitors Experience Cool Weather and Sunrise Views at Chiang Rai’s Doi Sa Ngo
CHIANG RAI – Tourists coming to Chiang Rai to experience cooler temperatures is rapidly growing, with visiters flocking to Doi Sa Ngo in the Golden Triangle area to enjoy cool temperatures and sunrise views.
Cold conditions atop Doi Sa Ngo in Chiang Saen District of Chiang Rai province have attracted both Thai and international travelers, many of which have set up camps on the mountaintop to catch its morning sunrises and fog seas.
The lowest temperature yet recorded at the peak was 13 degrees Celsius but wind chill has added to the nippy conditions. Campers to the area have been advised to prepare sufficiently warm clothing as temperatures are expected to drop further to below 10 degrees.
Doi Sa Ngo is located in the Golden Triangle area of the Thai north and allows people to look out over the three nations of Thailand, Lao and Myanmar as well as to see the Mekong River.
According to the Chiang Rai Meteorological Office, temperatures across the province have been dropping steadily, with the ground-level reading hitting its lowest at 12.8 degrees Celsius in the capital district near Mae Fah Luang Airport. The mercury reportedly plunges further by up to 4 degrees Celsius when measured on mountaintops.
Mr Niphon Jomnongsirisak, Director of the Protected Area Regional Office 15, said the average temperature atop Phu Chi Fa Mountain in Thoeng district on the Thai-Lao border was recently recorded at only 8 degrees Celsius.
The wintry condition is also accompanied by thick fog, prompting a need for motorists to be extra careful due to poor visibility.
