UK Man Drowns after Being Chased into Ocean by Thai Gang

A fisherman pulled his body out of the water and tried CPR on him, but it was too late, according to the report.

PATTAYA – Patrick Malloy a 28 year old British man has drowned after jumping into the sea in the Thai resort town of Pattaya after being chased by a group of Thai men wielding sticks and knives, police said.

Police said the Thai men claimed the trio were drunk and had destroyed property in a hotel in the early hours of Sunday, prompting the argument and chase when the two groups again met several hours later.

The trio were chased through the streets of Pattaya by several men wielding sticks and knives.

They leapt into the bay to escape the armed mob by swimming for safety, but Molloy, of Newmarket, Cambs, drowned.

Reports say Malloy was trying to swim to an inflatable banana boat but got into difficulties.

His two pals, fellow Brits James Wilks, 29, and Jerry Robson, 30, were rescued by a fishing boat.

The rescued friends were in shock. Police took them to their hotel and said they will take statements from them today to help identify the men they were running from.

Patrick Malloy, had a history of violence in his hometown and had recently served a prison sentence – was with two friends when they got into trouble.

In 2008, he was sentenced to two years for violence in the Noble Art, in East Road, Cambridge and the Black Bull at Sawston.

He was banned from many pubs in Cambridgeshire as a result of a “Pubwatch” drive sponsored by local businessmen.

A Foreign Office spokesman in Bangkok said: “We can confirm the death of a British National in Thailand and that we are in touch with his family.”
