Tourist Caravan Crashes on Chiang Mai Highway, One Dead, 14 Injured

CHIANG MAI – Pol Capt Pichit Saeka, duty officer of Pai Police Station in Mae Hong Son reported that a tourist passenger van travelling from Chiang Mai to Mae Hong Son veered off a road in Pai district on Thursday, killing one passenger and injuring 14. The injured were sent to Pai hospital.

Pol Capt Pichit Saeka said the van full of foreign tourists overshot a curve and over turned, killing one passenger and injuring 14 other, including the driver of the van.

Police said in a preliminary report that the driver from Prem Pracha Transport Co. possibly fell asleep at the wheel.

The van left Chiang Mai about noon and crashed about 2.35pm as it was leaving Pai and heading into Muang district in Mae Hong Son. Police have not released the names of the victims.
