CHONBURI – Tony Cairoli has won his first ever MXGP of Thailand on Sunday with more than convincing wins in both the MX1 and Super Final races at the Si Racha track.

Cairoli arrived in Thailand trailing Clement Desalle in the Championship by just two points after the opening round in Qatar a week

earlier, and overhauled his rival in style by taking the double win.

Tony Cairoli said, “It was a good weekend for me and I was happy to take both races today. It was a difficult race for everyone because of the heat, but you have to manage your energy and know your body, especially for the second motos when you start to get tired. The second race was better for me because the track wasn’t so bumpy and the best part of the weekend is that we got the red plates.”

The Red Bull KTM Factory rider looked in formidable form in the Qualifying Race on Saturday when he finished 10.5s ahead of team-mate Ken de Dycker, after a torrential downpour had delayed Saturday’s program.

When the gate dropped for the MX1 race on Sunday in much more favorable conditions – albeit with a sweltering heat to provide the riders with an added challenge – Cairoli was again sharp, and eventually won by nearly 11s ahead of De Dycker, with last week’s GP winner Desalle third after Honda’s Evgeny Bobryshev crashed from third position on lap 19 of 20.

Kawasaki’s Gautier Paulin was fourth with Tommy Searle fifth.
