Jingya Sae Jao told police Mrs Gao travelled to Thailand after breaking up with her husband.  She appeared to be under stress and often separated from the tour group to be alone.

The tour guide said “Initially, I started looking for her myself and asked zoo staff to help check CCTV footage, which suggested her last position was around the crocodile area. So I decided to alert police.”

Officers began searching for Miss Gao on Sunday night, but the operation was called off after a few hours amid heavy rain. She was wearing a white T-shirt, red shorts and a white wide-brimmed hat.
