BANGKOK – The Ertiga MPV has to be among the best things to have happened to Maruti Suzuki, India’s leading car maker, in recent times. The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga MPV is almost flying out of showrooms and has quickly established a strong foothold in the Indian MPV market.

Tales of the waiting period for Ertiga extending almost in to the next year are common and future seems pretty bright for the only C segment MUV in MSIL’s line up.

The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is underpinned by the internationally successful Swift’s platform and is exported to the Indonesian car market, where it is available with the 1.4 litre petrol engine.

MSIL is now gearing up to launch the Ertiga MPV in the Thailand car market. It is being said that the Suzuki Ertiga will be launched in Thai car market on March 19 and the media drive for the country’s journalists has already been held on March 4. The Thailand spec Suzuki Ertiga will look exactly like its Indonesian counterpart and will sport a chrome plated front grill. The Thai spec Ertiga will also get equal levels of equipment, if not more.

Powering the Thailand bound Suzuki Ertiga is the same 1.4 litre K-Series petrol engine that powers the India spec and Indonesian spec cars. The motor has a max power output of 94 bhp and has a peak torque figure of 130 Nm. The engine will come mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.

It will surely be interesting to see if the Ertiga would continue its spell of success and take the Thai car market by storm.
