Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) Donates 45 Motorised Boats to the Royal Thai Army

The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) donated 45 motorised boats to the Royal Thai Army (RTA) in support of the ongoing flood relief efforts in Thailand.

These will be transported by two C-130 aircraft from the Republic of Singapore Air Force over three days starting from today.

The SAF has already donated sandbags, bed sheets and blankets to the RTA as well as supported the Singapore Government in contributing US$115,000 (S$143,000) worth of relief supplies, including tents, generators, blankets, lamps and water containers to the Thai Government.

Thailand’s three-month crisis, triggered by unusually heavy monsoon rains, has left at least 381 people dead and damaged millions of homes and livelihoods, mostly in northern and central Thailand.

Tens of thousands of residents have left the nation’s capital Bangkok after the government declared a special five-day holiday.

Earlier today, Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra expressed hope that the situation will improve “in one or two days”.

“If everyone works hard … then the floodwater in Bangkok will start to recede in the first week of November,” Yingluck said in a weekly radio and television address to the nation.
