CHON BURI – A Russian skydiver fell to his death on Monday during an unsuccessful parachute jump at an airfield near Nong Kho reservoir in Laem Chabang, Chonburi near the resort city of Pattaya.

The incident occurred when the skydiver was performing an individual jump at the local skydiving center.

The Russian mskydiver jumped from the plane in his solo skydiving practice when a windshear caused his chute cells to collapse forcing him to plunge about 40 metres onto the ground.

The parachute opened but the top cord broke,” the skydiver’s friend told Thai PBS as a result, he died on impact.

Local police are investigating the circumstances surrounding this tragic accident the victim was identified only as Mr Zhakara 35.

The skydiving center where the tragedy occurred, is the only one center of the kind in Thailand so it is popular with tourists who usually skydive together with an instructor.

The victim was an experienced parachutist who had made many jumps in the past, the police officer said.
