BANGKOK – Thailand’s National Police Chief Somyot Poomphanmuang has confirmed that the Monday‚Äôs Ratchaprasong explosion is not in any way linked to terrorism; however, it is premature for the government to rule out any theories. PNPOL580821001000905

A massive manhunt for the suspects is underway, Pol Gen Somyot said, revealing further that Thai police and security services have contacted International Police Association (INTERPOL)and relevant agencies for information leading to the suspect.

According to him, several countries have offered Thai police technological supports, including sending technologically advanced equipment to Thailand for evidence validation, or technology that could enhance the quality of suspect footage taken by CCTVs.

As for public criticism that police cleared the bombing site too quickly, Pol Gen Somyot said the process was carried out in line with theory and that the EOD had enough time to collect all pieces of evidence.

He pleaded the media to be careful when asking witness-related questions as they might provoke fears of insecurity among the witnesses as well as the public, possibly causing the authorities to end up with less public cooperation.

Police have also received one million baht from an anonymous person who wanted to top up the police reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspects.

On Friday Panthongtae ‘Oak’ Shinawatra said on his facebook page he would give 2 million baht to anyone who can give leads to the bomber and the remaining 5 million to officials working the case, thus adding an additional 7 million baht to the arrest of the suspects.

At present, the reward is no eleven million baht.
