NAN – A Senior Police Sergeant and his wife in Nan province have been arrested and almost 2,000 methamphetamine tablets (Yaba) seized from them in Phichit Province early Sunday, police said.

Pol Snr Sgt Maj Sompong Sitthi, 46, of Nam Muab police station in Nan’s Wiang Sa district, and his wife Puangpaka Sitthi, 44, were held in Phichit’s Bung Na Rang district shortly after the officer handed 1,882 speed pills to a police informant posing as a drug customer.

The couple were travelling in a pickup truck when they were apprehended. Also seized from them were four mobile phones.

Sgt Maj Sompong confessed he had bought the drugs from a Hmong tribal man in Chiang Rai. His wife denied any involvement, claiming she only accompanied her husband and was not aware he sold illicit drugs. But arresting police claimed they had evidence to implicate both in drug trafficking. The pair have been charged with selling illicit drugs.
