Mild Earthquake Hits Chiangrai

CHIANG RAI – The Seismological Bureau, reports that a minor earthquake shook Chiang Rai’s Mae Suai district this morning. An earthquake measuring 2.7 on Richter scale at a depth of 2 kilometers jolted the district today. The tremor was not felt by residents in the area but the epicenter of the quake was reportedly close to the district.

According to the report, two other 2.0 magnitude aftershocks shook the same district.

There have been no reports of damage or injury in the area during any of the tremors.

Following the 6.3-magnitude earthquake that struck Chiang Rai in May, other much smaller earthquakes have been reported in the Northern province almost every month. Chiang Rai and nearby provinces straddle a fault line which is the cause of many tremors in the region.
