Hollywood Star Steven Seagal Plans to Shoot Films, set up Production Company in Thailand

BANGKOK – Former Hollywood Action Star, Director Steven Seagal yesterday visited Parliament and spoke to National Reform Steering Assembly (NRSA) members about his plan to produce two films in Thailand.
Seagal, a regular visitor to Thailand over the past 30 years, said it felt great to be back in the country. He said Thailand is amazing for its culture and martial arts, and known for its respect towards the King who has sacrificed himself for his country.

Steven Seagal shot to fame in the late 1980s, but went from action-movie hero to direct-to-video zero less than a decade later.In 2003 he brought a production to Thailand to film “Belly of the Beast
,” a film best remembered for launching the international career of then-lakorn princess Sara Malakul Lane.
During a tour of the meeting room at Parliament, Seagal saw a picture of the King and showed his respect, according to a report. Seagal, who mastered martial arts and whose outstanding fighting style separated him from other action stars, said Thailand was amazing with its culture and martial arts.
National Reform Steering Assembly Vice President Alongkorn Ponlaboot, who led the delegation that met Seagal, said foreign films shot in Thailand could promote the country’s image and boost its film industry, economy and tourism, which matched with the assembly’s national reform plan.
Mr. Ponlaboot also stressed that Seagal’s films would promote Thai artistic culture and Muay Thai, adding that the actor had long respected Buddhism.
As well as the film projects, Seagal said he plans to establish a film production company in the country to showcase its beauty to viewers around the world.
