CHIANGRAI – Narcotics Suppression Police arrested a hill-tribe man Chia Saethao in Saruay district of Chiang Rai province, while he was attempting to smuggle around 1 million pills of methamphetamine.

Police said 44-year-old Chia Saethao was a Thai of Hmong descent and was part of the narcotics smuggling network in the northern region. He was driving his pickup truck on the way to delivering the 998,000 Meth pills to dealers in Bangkok and its vicinity, when he was apprehended. In addition to the Meth pills, officials also seized the Ford pickup truck and the man’s cellular phone. Mr. Chia was charged with possession of narcotics with the intent to sell.

Police indicated that the lot of Meth pills made its way through Chiang Rai, the Mekong River, and Laos before being intercepted.
