BANGKOK – Five members of Nepal’s former royal family, including his sister Prerana Singh, left for Bangkok on Thai Airways flight on Wednesday afternoon, to be with ailing former Crown Prince Paras Shah.

The family members who headed to Bangkok include the 42-year-old’s cousins Dilasha Shahi and Pooja Shahi, and their husbands Dr. Rajiv Raj Shahi and Adarsha Bikram Rana respectively, according to Phaniraj Pathak, an aide of the former royal family.

His condition is said to be critical as brain injury is suspected due to an apparent brain haemorrhage that followed the cardiac arrest.

Quoting Sunil Khadka, the general Secretary of Non-Residential Nepalese Association (NRNA) Thailand, Nepali journalist Rupak D Sharma wrote on Twitter this morning that doctors are uncertain about the former royalty’s condition.

Representative from the Embassy of Nepal in Thailand visited the hospital to inquire about the former crown prince’s condition this morning.

After the visit, Deputy Chief of Nepali mission in Bangkok, Dor Nath Aryal, told THT Online over telephone that Shah is admitted to the Intensive Care Unit at the hospital and is assisted by ventilator.
He informed that doctors have suspected Shah suffered from brain haemorrhage in the wake of cardiac arrest.

Doctors said they, however, could not carry out CT scan of Shah’s head to confirm brain haemorrhage — owing to his poor condition, according to the Nepali diplomat,

A brain injury has been suspected due to the apparent brain haemorrhage.

The 42-year-old had suffered from cardiac arrest in Kathmandu in 2007. He had received treatment at the Norvic Hospital in Thapathali that time.

The only son of deposed King Gyanendra Shah‚ Paras is currently living in the Thai capital alone‚ after having differences with his family‚ which lives in Nepal.

Before moving to Bangkok‚ Paras lived in Singapore.

In October last year‚ he was arrested by Thai police in Phuket in possession of illegal drugs. Later in December‚ he was detained on charge of vandalising the luxury apartment that he rented in Bangkok.
