Governor Boonsong Techamanisatit led more than 1,000 participants in the Bike for Safety cycling activity, attended by government officials and the general public, to instill a culture of safety and awareness on public dangers.

The cycling event took on the eve of the Songkran holiday week, which is a period where traffic is expected to increase significantly, due to citizens traveling back home or to tourist attractions, increasing the likelihood of road accidents.

The Bike for Safety cycling activity comprised of two competition routes with three teams participating, the VIP team, A team along the 64-kilometer route from the city gall to Mae Chan District Office, and B team along the 68-kilometer route from the city hall to Rajamangala University of Technology Lanna.

An exhibition was also held to encourage public awareness on the issues, with the emphasis on public participation to prevent potential accidents and losses.

The next day Governor Boonsong Techamanisatit and the chief of Pak Tha district of Laos’ Bokeo Province presided over the opening ceremony of the Songkran festival at the Thai-Lao border in Wiang Kaen district in Chiang Rai.

The activities included the water-pouring ceremony for the elderly, a beauty contest, a traditional drum contest and performances by Thai and Lao artists. The objectives are to strengthen ties, trade and tourism between the two countries.
