CHIANG RAI –   Authorities in Chiang Rai have reported 450,000 methamphetamine (or meth) pills were seized in a Chiang Rai drug bust operation, as two drug smugglers evaded arrest.
Chiang Rai Governor Pongsak Wangsamer told a press briefing that his special drug suppression unit has seized some 450,000 meth pills and one motorcycle at Tha Sut subdistrict in Chiang Rai Province
He said the unit noticed two men, each carried two fertilizer sacks each riding on a motorcycle. After they spotted a checkpoint, the two abrubtly left the motorcycle around 50 metres away from the checkpoint and ran away. The motorcycle and four bags were left on the road.

The authorities searched the bags and found meth pills wrapped in paper bearing the number 999 logo which indicated that the drugs originated from the Lt Col Yi Say trafficking network.

Meanwhile, Police arrested two drug traffickers and seized 280,000 meth pills in a sack which was hidden in a new luxury car.

Police said the two were arrested in the Chiang Rai area after they picked up the drugs from a producer in Myanmar.

The drug traffickers told police that they were headed to deliver the drugs to a customer in Nakhon Si Thammarat.

They were to receive Bt100,000 for the shipment. They used the luxury car as cover for their drug delivery. MCOT
