A Swim with Friends Ends in Tragedy, 23 Year-Old French Woman Drowns at Phuket Beach
PHUKET – Police Lt. Thanakan Uchanaratsamee, an inspector at the Sakoo Police Station in Phuket reported that 23-year-old French National Anne-Sophie Torrijos-Faisant tragically drowned at a small beach south of Nai Thon on Saturday.
Lt Thanakan Uchanaratsamee told the media that Miss Torrijos-Faisant was swimming with friends when the surf dragged her away about 30 meters away from the beach.
Kusoldharm rescue workers later recovered Miss Torrijos-Faisant, unconscious and unresponsive, from the water near rocks beside the beach where she was immediately rushed to Thalang Hospital.
Attempts to revive her were unsuccessful, doctors at Thalang Hospital said.
According to Farang Deaths.com, it was the first visit to the island for Miss Torrijos-Faisant, who had turned 23 on August 11.
She had arrived on Phuket earlier that day after spending some time in Chiang Mai. Photographs on her Instagram account indicate that she had been staying at the Andaman White Beach Resort, about 1.5 south of Nai Thong Beach.
“Dream hotel in Phuket,” Miss Torrijos-Faisant wrote in one of the last uploaded pictures only hours before her death. “We’ve just booked another night because it’s so nice.” Sa Khu Provincial Police Station has ordered to put up red flags to bar beachgoers from entering the water until the investigation is over.
